At HOTT3D, we recognise the industry’s significant impact on pollution and waste. Since our inception, we have been committed to steering the course towards sustainable practices.

As signatories of the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative and members of the Event Greening Forum, we are committed to a sustainable future.

How we're doing it

Our mission is to redefine the way exhibition stands and event infrastructure are designed and constructed.

HOTT3D takes pride in leading the charge towards a greener future, integrating eco-friendly approaches into every aspect of our operations.

We are dedicated to not only minimising our environmental footprint but also guiding and educating our clients on the path to sustainability.

We help clients assess the environmental impact of their events and work together to create sustainable stands.

Our focus is on reducing waste, pollution, and promoting product longevity and recycling within a circular economy framework.

Planning & Design

HOTT3D is a big proponent of modular stand builds with our primary system being Octanorm.

Octanorm offers a sustainable, long-lasting, and versatile construction approach that can endure for decades.

It is by far the purist long-term sustainable build method with components re-used hundreds if not thousands of times. If it does reach end-of-life it can be smelted and re-extruded.

This system provides solutions for any aspect of an exhibition stand from floor to overhead bulkheads, most of which are manufactured in South Africa ensuring accessibility and aligning with sustainable practices.

Where possible and logical, we combine this system with the use fully recycled materials to design unique stands for our clients and limiting the use of non-recyclable, single-use materials. Our primary driver for this system is Budget Exhibits

Power Generation

Eskom-generated electricity carries a carbon emissions rate of 1.06 CO2e/kg/kWh, as indicated by Eskom’s 2021 published emissions data.

To advance our commitment to sustainability, we have taken a proactive step by installing a robust solar system throughout our premises.

In our factory 2 x 12kVa 3 phase Inverters, 6 x 5,1kWh Batteries and 24 kWp worth of solar panels supplement our reliance on the grid.

Our office is run by 6,6 kWp Solar PV with 8,8 kVa Inverter and 10.2 kWh Battery Backup.

A minimum of 60% of our power requirements are generated by sustainable solutions and we are aiming to increase this percentage significantly more in the future.

“A solar system to run production – it’s a no-brainer”

Liam Beattie, Managing Director, HOTT3D

Recycling & Waste

Our offices operates on entirely on a recycling basis. From staff kitchens to packaging and stand wastage.

Within our office environment, every recyclable waste stream is facilitated by dedicated waste disposal bins.

Regular collections ensures that all materials are gathered and sent for recycling.

At the end of their life cycle, furniture is available for purchase at discounted prices. This opportunity is consistently embraced, with a 100% uptake by staff or their friends, guaranteeing the continued use of the furniture.

The recycling of timber waste and IT equipment is managed on an as-needed basis by Cape Metal and recycled.

Awareness

Meet Bob

Adopted as HOTT3D’s mascot is made from up-cycled fishing nets and plastic that washed up on our local beaches. Bob represents a real sea turtle who has quite the inspiring story. Rescued by the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town back in 2014, Bob, a green sea turtle, suffered from severe health issues, including a fractured shell and brain inflammation. Despite early predictions that he wouldn’t survive in the wild, Bob underwent eight years of rehabilitation.

After significant recovery, including overcoming neurological damage and issues caused by ingesting plastic, Bob was released back into the wild in January 2023. Fitted with a GPS tag to monitor his movements, Bob now swims freely off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, contributing to vital marine research.

HOTT3D’s Bob symbolises both our commitment to sustainability and the resilience of marine life when given a second chance.

This remarkable journey also highlights the importance of reducing ocean plastic pollution, which aligns perfectly with our sustainable ethos.

We use Bobs voice in our social media campaigns to create awareness and support for sustainable practice in the exhibition industry.

Bob was lovingly created by Mishvania to create awareness for the plight of sea turtles and marine life that is threatened by plasitic pollution in the worlds oceans.
